Milliken Lighthouse stands on a small waterfront point, its white tapered tower set against the Detroit River and the city skyline. The nearby paths, harbor, and park lawns make it an easy lighthouse to experience on foot. As the light changes, its simple form becomes a foreground for river traffic, reflections, and the towers of downtown Detroit.

History & Description
The lighthouse belongs to Detroit’s modern riverfront park landscape. The harbor opened to the public in 2004, providing a new place for recreation beside a waterway long associated with industry and shipping. A later park phase added a demonstration wetland.
The 63-foot tower takes its design from Tawas Point Lighthouse. Its white shaft narrows toward a dark gallery and lantern, giving the harbor entrance a familiar Great Lakes silhouette. The surrounding circular walkway and railings place the tower directly within the visitor’s waterfront experience.
Here the lighthouse is part of a larger setting: the park, marina, Riverwalk, and downtown skyline share the frame. That relationship gives Milliken its distinctive identity—an urban harbor landmark within walking distance of Detroit’s riverfront attractions.
